METEOROLOGY

DOES WEATHER HAPPEN RANDOMLY?

Does weather happen randomly or are there patterns that can be recognized?

If there are patterns,
what are they and how can we use them?

Before you answer these questions by doing the following investigations:

Please read these suggestions

&

Investigate the concepts and tools meteorologists use.

INVESTIGATIONS

  1. What is the relationship between altitude and temperature?
  2. What is the relationship between latitude and temperature?
  3. In which direction and how fast does weather move?
  4. What are the atmospheric readings as a H (High) or a L (Low) approaches and departs a reporting station?
  5. What is the relationship between dewpoint temperature and actual air temperature as a storm approaches?
  6. What are the atmospheric readings as a line of storms approaches and departs a reporting station?
  7. Predict the weather!
  8. What areas of the U.S. would most likely be affected by acid rain? Why? Give evidence to support your hypothesis.
