You are making plans for summer vacation this year.  You have decided to take a bike trip across America.  You will travel with a group of others visiting interesting sites along the way.  Together you will create a travelogue recording your trip.  This log can be a Power Point slide show, a Hyperstudio presentation or a Web Page.  You will also create a tourism brochure.
 

 Task

    Your class will form different groups representing members of the bikers.  You will need to consider sites you wish to visit when mapping out your route.  Each group will be required to include at least 4 National Parks on their route.  You will be creating a travelogue which will describe your trip.  Individuals will also create a tri-fold tourism brochure for their National Park.  You will be using your textbook, library resources, and the Internet to find the information that will help you plan your trip and complete your projects.

The Process

    You will be working in groups of four students to design a Bike Trip Across America.  You will be departing from a point on the East Coast and completing your trip at the West Coast.

GROUP REQUIREMENTS  Your group must choose 4 National Parks across America.  Your team must also choose jobs for each team member.

Each group will need a:

    Mapmaker to plan out your route so you can get across the country and visit the chosen sites.

    Geologist  to work with mapmaker to consider landforms when planning the route.

    Photographer  to be responsible for pictures of points of interest you will see along the trip.

    Trip Coordinator to act as a group leader.  The Coordinator makes sure your group meets deadlines
    and requirements of the project.

GROUP PROJECT

    You will create a group travelogue.  This will be a record of your "trip" across America.  You must     include information on each of your four National Parks, a map of your trip route with points of interest highlighted, and descriptions of the landforms you have seen.

INDIVIDUAL REQUIREMENTS  You must also choose one of the 4 National Parks your group visits.  You are to become the "expert" for this park.

INDIVIDUAL PROJECT

    You will create a 3-fold tourism brochure for your National Park.  This
    brochure must include: Facts about the park,  a description of natural features,
    things to do while visiting, and pictures.  You may use your text book, library
    or other materials and the Internet.
